Lake Zurich Baseball House League

Rookie League, PreK - K

The Rookie League is our entry level for baseball and softball. It is a recreational league comprised of boys and girls aged five years old by December 31st of the current year (Pre-K) and Kindergarteners.

The league is designed for the children to have fun while learning the basic elements of baseball: throwing, fielding, running, and batting. Teams will cover such topics as where to stand in the field, which direction to run, how to throw a baseball, how to hold a bat, etc.   It is an underhand coach pitch league. The rookie league also uses a “safe ball” to minimize the chance of injury.

The season consists of approximately 12 games (twice per week, one weekday and 1 Saturday or Sunday). Each game is broken down into two parts. The first 30 minutes of each game are designed around the instruction of the various skills being taught. The second part is a 3-inning game that usually lasts about 1 hour.

After registration, the league President places all participants on a team. While we cannot guarantee that any two players will be placed on the same team, we accept requests to pair players (with a mutual friend request) and will accommodate it whenever possible. One request per player. We also look to group players by the school when possible.

Colt League, High School

Our Colt League provides for continuing baseball play while boys are in high school.  This league allows boys in the high school age group to play ball in a highly competitive structure and is appreciable to those who love the game.  When you play Colt League baseball, you like baseball, period!

If you participate on a high school baseball team (regular season or summer program), you can also play in the Colt League because the schedules do not conflict.  The Colt League season begins one week after high school graduation.  Colt games are generally played once per week on Saturdays beginning in mid-June and concluding in early August, culminating in an “all play” World Series Tournament held on the Lake Zurich High School Varsity Baseball Field.  Over the years, this league has evolved from a single travel team into an exciting and competitive house league comprised of six to ten teams.  We are conscientious that at this age, there may be competing interests, including jobs, so the League is flexible to accommodate these lifestyle adjustments.
