The Junior Softball League is designed for 3rd and 4th-grade girls who wish to experience the complete game of fastpitch softball in a recreational setting. This is the first level of softball, where the girls start to learn and practice live pitching. The LZ house program focuses on fun and instruction as the primary focus and competitiveness secondary. To help prepare the girls for a future in softball, the league has the following development goals for this level.
Position Fundamentals
Pitching
Exposure to live pitching including windmill form and called balls/strikes
Batting Fundamentals
Base Running Fundamentals
Developing awareness of game situations
Developing personal self-confidence
Team Environment
The Junior levels play in a combined league with youth softball teams from Barrington, Cary, and Wauconda. The season starts in early April with a full month of practices and progressing to playing 12-15 game regular season games. Playoff games follow the regular season to determine a league champion. The final game for the season is a mixed-team All-Star game that includes the top-voted players from each team.
Teams are formed through a combination of friend requests and a draft. Friend requests are given top priority however the league cannot guarantee that all friend requests will be honored. Depending on interest, the league may also form a part-time travel team (Lake Zurich Storm), in which players must try out to be selected. For more information, visit the LZ Storm Travel Page.
