The minor 9 baseball season ended with an exciting Championship game as the Dodgers took on the Marlins. Both teams had to come from behind in the semi-finals to advance to the final game. The Dodgers rallied in the 5th inning vs. the Pirates to pull out a 6-2 win. The Marlins needed extra innings to beat the Giants 11-7.
In the Championship game, the Marlins started off strong posting 4 runs in the top of the 1st. The Dodgers responded quickly behind the bats of Jake Green, Lukas Galdoni, Elijah Larson and Lukas Troutman plating 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless top of the 2nd, the Dodgers scored 4 runs in the bottom half as Jacob Hustead, Mike Machamer, Andrew Jarcik and Danny Gramm all crossed the plate.
However, the fighting Marlins were not done. They put up 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd to make it an 8-7 Marlins lead. The Dodgers, as they had done previously, responded by scoring 2 runs and taking a lead 9-8 that they wouldn’t relinquish.
The Dodgers added an insurance run in the 4th and received some outstanding relief pitching from Jackson Galdoni and solid defensive work from catchers Zack Wenzel and Michael Giannos to make it a 10-8 ballgame heading to the 6th. In the top half of the inning, the Marlins plated 1 run and loaded the bases. However, Elijah Larson was able to close the door as the Dodgers won 10-9.
Congratulations to all the teams for a great season!
