We Care About Our Coaches!

The LZBSA has partnered with The American Sport Education Program (ASEP) to bring ASEP coaching education online courses to LZBSA coaches in an effort to enhance the overall experience for both players and coaches.

Lake Zurich Baseball and Softball Association recognizes the important role that youth coaches play in providing a positive sport experience for our kids. We feel there is no one single action that can have more of a positive impact on our players than improving the quality and knowledge of our coaches.

 

The LZBSA has partnered with The American Sport Education Program (ASEP) to bring ASEP coaching education online courses to LZBSA coaches in an effort to enhance the overall experience for both players and coaches.

 

The LZBSA is offering two levels of coaching education for its managers/coaches and parents: (1) Coaching Youth Baseball/Softball;  (2) Coaching Baseball/Softball Technical and Tactical Skills.

The Coaching Youth Baseball/Softball online courses provides baseline knowledge in general coaching principles, sport first aid, and baseball/softball-specific techniques and tactics, the course provides common ground for all coaches in our organization, so that we’re working in concert to achieve shared goals and objectives, whether it is developing our organization’s coaching philosophy or running practices.

In this course, you'll learn how to:

  • Meet your coaching responsibilities, including examining your priorities as a coach
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and officials;
  • Provide for safety and respond to injuries;
  • Develop a training program for players to promote lifelong fitness;
  • Understand the basic rules of the baseball;
  • Create plans for your season and for individual practices;
  • Prepare for and coach on game day;
  • Teach and shape tactics and skills;
  • Teach three specific offensive tactics and six specific defensive tactics; and
  • Teach three offensive skills and six defensive skills.

The Coaching Technical and Tactical Skills online courses are designed to help coaches learn how to teach the technical and tactical skills of baseball or softball and is suitable for high school coaches, serious club coaches, undergraduate students and advanced coaches at the youth level.

In this course you will learn how to

  • Explain the relationship and difference between technical and tactical skills and describe the traditional and games approaches to practice (unit 1);
  • Evaluate technical and tactical skills in your players and make use of your evaluation results (unit 2);
  • Teach, critique, and correct essential technical skills (units 3 and 4);
  • Teach, critique, and correct essential tactical skills (units 5 and 6);
  • Prepare effective season plans and individual practice plans (units 7 and 8); and
  • Prepare for game days, coach games, and work with your team after games (units 9 and 10).

 

The Coaching Youth Baseball/Softball course costs $15.96 and takes about 3 hours to complete.

The Coaching Baseball/Softball Technical and Tactical Skills course costs $49.95 and takes about 20 hours to complete.

Upon completion of the course (80 percent is considered a passing score), you will be entered in the ASEP National Coaches Registry, an online listing of coaches who've completed ASEP courses. From the registry, you can view your course transcript and print a certificate of course completion at any time. With your listing in the directory, you receive a 10 percent discount on all non-course purchases from the ASEP site.

 

The LZBSA will reimburse 2012 Managers up to $15 following the successful completion of the Coaching Youth Baseball/Softball course (A Certificate of Course Completion will need to be submitted to Andy Flaherty by September 1, 2012)
